Summary: Valium, chemical name Diazepam, is one of the most prescribed and commonly used medications in the world today, has been around for more than 40 years and its generic version is also available. But the question on most people’s minds is whether there is any difference between the generic and the branded version.

Is There a Difference Between Generic and Brand Valium?

Valium is one the most important and commonly prescribed drugs in the world today. It is the trade name for Diazepam – a benzodiazepine drug manufactured by Hoffman-La Roche. Valium has been around for more than 40 years and is known by the brand name more than the generic name. Even the generic version which is sold under the name Diazepam is referred to as Valium by people. Valium is used to treat Ménière’s disease, alcohol withdrawal, restless legs syndrome, muscle spasms (like in tetanus for example), seizures, insomnia and anxiety. It is also used as a tension and anxiety reducer for several medical procedures.

Valium has been around for more than 40 years and the patent has long since expired and generic versions are available. And the question on most people’s minds is – is there any difference between the generic version and the brand version. And the answer is – yes and no. The truth is that there is absolutely no difference when it comes to effect of the medicine. The generic drug is just as efficient as the branded medicine. Most people seem to have the misconception that branded is better. After all, branded clothes, shoes and watches work better, look better and last longer than unbranded stuff, right? Well, the drug industry doesn’t work that way!

Generic diazepam is in no way lesser than branded diazepam in terms of strength, safety and efficacy. It has to be identical. Otherwise the FDA won’t approve it. Branded drugs in the U.S. are granted a patent of 20 years after which generic versions are sold.

The only place where generic drugs differ is in the price and medium or binders. You see, as per FDA guidelines, ‘identical’ is not to be taken literally, it is a legal term. Identical here means the generic version should have the same number of active ingredients, the passive ingredients can differ. The active ingredients are carried on a medium or binder and the binder can differ. The binder is merely a ‘vehicle’ to carry the drug into your system and it doesn’t make a difference what binder is used as long as it does the job. There are rumors and myths about generic drugs that they are not as effective, these are not true.

And, of course, the prices differ. Why do you want to pay extra for nothing. Save a buck, buy generic, it’s the same thing.

Summary: Valium has been listed in the WHO’s list of essential drugs and is one of the most commonly prescribed drugs for more than 40 years. But then again, like all drugs Valium has some side effects as well and one must be aware of these side effects before taking this drug.

The Possible Side Effects of Valium

Valium is a very commonly prescribed drug and has been around for more than 40 years. It is one of the best known drugs and it is, in fact, so popular that people have forgotten that valium is merely a brand name used by the manufacturers Hoffman-La Roche and the chemical name is in fact diazepam. It is used to treat anxiety, seizures, restless legs syndrome, Ménière’s disease, alcohol withdrawal, muscle spasms and insomnia. It has amnestic, skeletal muscle relaxant, sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic properties. But like all drugs, diazepam also has its fair share

of side effects and adverse effects.

It is known to cause anti-retrograde amnesia when taken in unsafe doses. Anti-retrograde amnesia is like the opposite of amnesia, that is one is able to remember all incidents prior to the incident that caused the anti-retrograde amnesia, but has difficulties retaining short term memories and can’t remember anything more than what occurred five minutes prior. It also has some effects that are paradoxical – it can actually worsen seizures in epileptics. It causes effects like rage and excitement and can actually worsen depression. It is also a sedative and sedation can be indirectly harmful as it can lead to lack of alertness while operating machinery or driving and could be dangerous to the person involved and others around.

Diazepam is not recommended for individuals who are dependant on drugs and alcohol as it can cause co-morbid psychiatric disorders. Special precaution should be taken when given to children, the minimum possible dose should be given and it should be given to children under 6 months of age as trials have not been conducted. In elderly people, the diazepam has risk of cardiac arrest. Also, the fact that it is a sedative subjects the elderly to the risk of falling. Generally, the elder are more susceptible to the risks. In pregnant women, it can lead to floppy baby syndrome.

Diazepam is also known to cause problems that are associated with addictive substances, problems like dependence, withdrawal, and tolerance. Patients develop tolerance, that it higher and higher doses have to be given to achieve desired results and the consequence of this is of course dependence. The discontinuation of the drug results in withdrawal symptoms. Discontinuation of the drug should be done gradually over a period of time with reduced dosages. Abrupt stoppage can lead to withdrawal symptoms. The higher the dosage, the more drastic will be the effects of the withdrawal.

Summary: Valium has various uses today. There is a great deal of information available to people on this drug. Here is some valium consumer information

Information about Valium can be gained from various websites and magazines. Valium is part of a group of drugs called benzodiazepines. They work by affecting the chemicals in the brain. Valium is used for treating general anxiety and tension. It is also used as a muscle relaxant, helps in curing insomnia as well as symptoms of alcohol withdrawal such as anxiety and panic attacks. Valium can be taken in the form of tablets, capsules or as an injection.

Valium is considered a strong drug and can create a habit or addiction. Most sources stress that this medicine should not be consumed without medical prescription. Those who have an allergic reaction to diazepam, Ativan, Klonopin etc should not use it along with those with severe liver disease, breathing problem, sleep apnea (a condition where the patient stops breathing during sleep) etc. It should only be taken in the prescribed dosages and should not be given to children below the age of 6 months. Pregnant women should not consume valium as it could harm the unborn baby. It may cause low blood pressure, breathing problems etc in a newborn as it passes through mother’s milk.

There are many benefits to taking valium for different people. It helps deal with severe cases of depression and anxiety. It helps those suffering from insomnia, it reduces muscle stress. Valium enhances gamma-aminobutyric acid, a chemical produced in the brain which naturally calms people down. It slows down or stops certain nerve signals to the brain and thus valium works as a mild tranquilizer or sedative.

There are some medications which do not work well with valium. It is very important to inform your doctor of any and all medications you are taking at the time. Always strictly follow the recommended dosages. Valium is only meant for a short term usage. Never stop valium suddenly without consulting your doctor. While taking valium has many benefits, you must have a blood and liver function test frequently to ensure there are no harmful effects. Other important information is that if you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember but only if you’re not near the time of the next dose – never take 2 doses close to each other. You should also never take an extra valium to cover the missed dose. Do not take valium while drinking alcohol as it just increases the effects. If an overdose has happened seek medical attention immediately as an overdose can be fatal.

Many people worldwide are suffering from various disorders and anxieties. Most of the anxieties can be cured through various anti anxiety medicines. The best medicine is to identify the cause for anxiety and prevent the condition. Moving the persons, who are under severe stress situations, to other places can also cure the anxiety. Anti anxiety drugs are necessary to cure the persons, who are severely suffering from anxiety. Severe anxiety could lead to depression. Therefore, people who are suffering from anxiety, are to be identified and cured immediately. Many best anti anxiety drugs are available in the market. However, they should be administered on the advice of certified medical professional only. Some of the anti-anxiety medicines are addictive in nature. Overuse of anti anxiety drugs will create unwanted side effects. Therefore, people are advised to use anti-anxiety drugs as directed by the physician only.

Anti anxiety drugs are prescribed for persons who are suffering from anxiety disorders such as stress disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, phobias, and panic. You should use FDA approved drugs such as Diazepam, Alprazolam, and Chlordiazepoxide. These benzodiazepines are considered best anti anxiety medicines. They act quickly to cure your anxiety disorder. You can also use Buspirone to cure generalized anxiety disorder. Anti depressants such as fluvoxamine, fluoxetine and clomipramine are prescribed for people, who are suffering from depression due to anxiety.

Anti anxiety medicines are applied in lower doses initially to identify any side effects on the patients under the supervision of medical practitioners. The general side effects of anti anxiety medicines include confusion, loss of coordination and drowsiness. Physicians will also consider the effect of existing medicines when administering the anti anxiety drugs on the patients. This is to ensure that the patient will not have reaction when new medicines are administered.

SSRIs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, buspirone and benzodiazepines are generally used to cure anxiety. Physicians will also describe other medicines such as barbiturates, antipsychotic, betablocker drugs and antihistamine depending on the condition of the patients.

Physicians generally prescribe antihistamine such as Vistaril for anti anxiety before recommending the use of benzodiazepines. Vistaril is used to control the anxiety associated with psychoneurosis. The studies indicate that patients are less likely to get addicted to Vistaril. It helps to provide quick relief from anxiety. SSRIs are safer than anti depressants in curing anxiety. Therefore, SSRIs such as citalopram, paroxetine, sertraline and fluoxetine are widely used to cure anxiety. Other types of anti anxiety drugs that act on brain’s neurotransmitter levels include monamine oxidase.

Summary

Many people suffer from anxiety due to various stressful situations. It is better to identify the situation, apply proper benzodiazepines and other anti anxiety drugs to cure the anxiety to prevent patient falling into depression. People are advised to use the anti anxiety drugs as per the direction of the physician to prevent side effects.

Summary: Anxiety disorder has physical and emotional symptoms. Heart problems, fatigue, dizziness, feelings of loss of control and the most common, irrational and uncontrollable fear are some of them.

Anxiety is disorder that is characterized by extreme feelings of fear, nervousness, apprehension and worrying. This disorder can have a huge impact on our lives and affects everything from the way we think to the way we behave. In this article we shall look at the symptoms that can be used for recognising anxiety and its manifestation as GAD or generalised anxiety disorder.

As mentioned earlier, anxiety is not just a specific disorder but a blanket term used to describe multiple problems. Thus, the symptoms can differ greatly. The manifestation of these symptoms can also vary, where some people must live with a constant sense of foreboding and fear, others may only find it manifest when one is performing a specific task like driving. With others, the thought of socializing may cause a sudden feeling of panic. There are also those who find these attacks come suddenly and leave just as suddenly with no warning. Despite this, all forms of anxiety share one common symptom; an incessant and irrational fear or apprehension that exceeds normalcy.

Anxiety’s symptoms manifest in two forms. The symptoms can be emotional or physical. The common emotional symptoms persons suffering from anxiety disorder often face include, a feeling of dread and apprehension or irritability or restlessness or inability to concentrate or tension or a felling like one’s mind has gone blank. These feelings can appear together or serperately. Dread and fear that makes you immobile and unable to think are especially common. The fear one feels in these situations is excessive and can often take a person over completely. People who suffer from advanced stages of anxiety disorder also feel paranoia and can tend to constantly look for danger everywhere.

Anxiety can also manifest in a physical form. As mentioned earlier, anxiety affects not just how you feel but how you function. Thus GAD patients can often find that there are things wrong with them physically too. This is due to the body’s natural fight or flight response. Many of these symptoms can be indicative of something else as well and thus people often tend to run to the hospital expecting this to be an actual illness. Some of the more popular physical symptoms are heart pounding, sweating, muscles tensing up, headaches, sudden twitches and tremors, fatigue, insomnia, breathlessness, frequent need to go to the toilet and stomach problems.

Episodes of anxiety that come suddenly and have a negative effect on you are known as panic attacks or anxiety attacks. The causes for these attacks are many. They have certain symptoms of their own. The symptoms of anxiety attacks include a surge of unbearable panic, a case of the trembles, nausea, dizziness, chest pains and heart palpitations, feelings of absolute loss of control, hot flashes or chills etc

Summary: Anxiety can be caused by many factors. Three principle reasons for anxiety are chemical imbalances, hereditary and life experiences. Besides this it could also be due to overuse of a stimulants or as an after effect of medication.

Anxiety is a blanket term for experiences of sudden and persistent fear, terror, apprehension and general unease. When these feelings strike regularly at unexpected moments it is indicative of a disorder of some kind. In this article we shall examine some of the most common causes for this disorder. Anxiety can strike when you least expect it and can sometimes leave just as suddenly. At other times it may persist and render the victim unable to function. Anxiety can be triggered by anything. Despite this, scientists have been able to narrow the causes of anxiety to 3 chief triggers.

The causes for anxiety can be divided into three principal causes. The first cause is brain chemistry. This refers to a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes an individual to feel more apprehension or fear than is normal. This cause can be treated with medicines that restore the chemical balance. Such people are advised to regularly take their medicines as going off the medicines can have a very adverse effect on them. Neurotransmitters that are basically messengers to the brain are affected by this imbalance. The chief neurotransmitters that cause anxiety are serotonin and dopamine.

Additional studies suggest that unnatural feelings of fear and anxiety can also be the result of an imbalance between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. PET scans can detect this. Another primary cause for anxiety is hereditary. Research indicates that children of people who suffer from stress are more likely to get anxiety related disorders than anyone else. One possible reason for this is the fact that the brain recognises the behaviour it watched everyday as normal and thus emulates it. Cognitive behaviour therapy is all people need in this case.

The third and final cause for anxiety is life experiences. A traumatic experience at any point in a person’s life can cause them to suffer from a feeling of insecurity and fear for the rest of their life. Many times stressful events can be responsible for causing anxiety. This is seen when a major life changing experience happens to a person. Anxiety can also be the result of overuse of stimulants including caffeine, cocaine and amphetamines. It can also be a side effect of prescribed medication. Sometimes, anxiety can be a result of multiple factors combined. Understanding the cause of the anxiety is an important step in curing it. This can be done by using a combination fo therapy and physical tests. It is important a person experiencing high levels of anxiety do whatever is necessary to defeat the disorder before it consumes them completely.

Summary: Anxiety is a physiological state of nervousness. It affects emotional and behavioral state of a person and defines the state of well-being of an individual. Stress is considered to be one of the root causes of anxiety, which creates the feeling of fear and uneasiness. Anxiety is a mental condition that defines the mood of an individual. When anxiety increases beyond par, it becomes a disorder that requires immediate medical attention as it causes nervousness, uneasiness, fear, emotional distress and worry. Anxiety is an enhanced form of fear. Unlike fear, that is natural to be stimulated when an individual is exposed to any threat, anxiety is a state of extreme emotional response in the form of fear and worry to a certain situation. Anxiety is not any disease in itself, but its elevated form becomes a disorder.

Fear on one hand is a short-lived response to a situation; anxiety persists for longer durations and causes heart palpitation and muscle weakness. The other common symptoms of anxiety include tension, fatigue, nausea, chest pain, breathlessness, headache, sweating and sometimes even stomachache. All this irks the patient and induces a feeling of extreme worse and inauspicious news, panic attacks, tension, nervousness, obsession, feeling of being trapped and sometimes the person under consideration fear a sudden death as well. Some other symptoms can also include a pale skin and a blank mind.

Anxiety disorder rules over the mind of the person to such an extent that small things and threats too seem to be grave problems. A simple chest pain seems to be a sure heart attack and it is more like a stampede situation within the mind and body of the person in question, undergoing this disorder. All this affects the mind and physical health of an individual in the long run, if it remains untreated. Over a gradual period of time, the person undergoing severe anxiety may induce a change in the sleeping trend that can be quite dangerous for the physical as well as mental well being of an individual.

One question that arises in such a scenario is what causes anxiety? Stress seems to be the obvious and dominating reason behind anxiety. While it is normal to get tense or feel fear when subjected to a specific situation, on the other hand if the fear starts inducing the thoughts of death, it is an alarming situation that it might be an onset of anxiety in you. While some people are more prone to this disorder, the others are not. This disorder is potentially very harmful in the long run as it starts keeping a control over your behaviour and the way you adjust in the society at large.

Thus, to ensure your physical and mental well-being, never take any of the above-mentioned symptoms lightly.
